Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India is located at the base of Banasura mountain regions, the third biggest hilltop of Western Ghats. The dam is built over the Karamanathodu River, a confluent of the Kabini river. The dam was built to support the Hydroelectric power project of the Kakkayam region. Today the dam is one among Wayanad’s best places and is a favorite tourist destination too. The dam is 21Km away from Kalpetta and offers a spectacular view of the group of islands within the dam Lake. The dam lies closer to Karalad Lake, a major Wayanad tourist attraction.
The dam premises help you to immerse yourself in many interesting activities including trekking and boating. The best time to visit the dam is during November and May.
